Wire Rope Slings

IntegriCert offers a wide variety of wire rope slings, from 1/8 to 4 in diameter. All of our wire rope slings are proof tested to twice the safe working load limit upon fabrication or repair. In addition, all wire rope slings fabricated by IntegriCert are channeled through an extensive quality control system that meets ISO standards. Our wire rope slings are used on a daily basis for lifting objects such as cargo transit containers and offshore service equipment or for any subsea lifting application as well as the installation of oilfield drilling platforms.

Single-Leg Wire Rope Slings

This type of sling consists of one single part of wire rope with a mechanically spliced terminated end fitting. Various types of end fittings can be attached, including a thimble eye, standard soft eye, closed or open spelter socket, closed or open swage socket, swaged ferrule, eye hoist hook or swivel hook. These slings are commonly used to connect to one lifting point.

Two-Leg Wire Rope Slings

Our two-leg wire rope slings are designed to attach to two lifting points. These slings typically have a master link on top and thimbles on all ends. However, two-leg slings can have the same mechanically spliced end terminations as the single-leg sling, only on the bottom of the legs.

IntegriCert recommends the following operating practices pertaining to wire rope slings.

  1. Destroy retired slings.
  2. Never expose slings to temperatures in excess of the manufacturer's recommendations.
  3. Use a sling that is long enough to provide the minimum practical vertical angle.
  4. Never shorten a sling with knots, bolts or other methods.
  5. Never twist or kink the legs of a sling.
  6. Never load a sling in excess of its rated capacity.
  7. Center the load in the base (bowl) of the hook to prevent point loading.
  8. When using a basket hitch, balance the load to prevent slippage.
  9. Always protect slings from sharp edges.
  10. Securely hitch each sling to its load.
  11. Avoid shockloading.
  12. Never pull a sling from under a load while that load is resting on the sling.
  13. Never use homemade fittings and attachments.
  14. Never make a sling from used wire rope.
  15. Never use any sling that is of questionable strength and condition.
  16. Never use a sling unless it has a manufacturer's identification tag on it with the safe working load limit, diameter, length, cert number and original manufacture date.
  17. To ensure the life of wire rope, IntegriCert recommends periodic lubrication be applied.
